Tornado warnings were briefly in place for parts of northern Ontario on Saturday evening. They have now been called off.
Environment Canada’s weather alert said there is a tornado warning in effect for Fraserdale – Pledger Lake as well as Little Abitibi – Kesagami Lake as of 6:59 p.m. ET.
The statement had earlier said meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that could have possibly resulted in a tornado.
“This dangerous thunderstorm is located 9 kilometres northeast of Brownrigg, moving southeast at 55 km/h,” the website said at the time. “Radar signature shows rotation for a possible tornado.”
Those warnings were removed by 7:30 p.m. ET.
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Fraserdale – Pledger Lake and Kapuskasing – Hearst – Smooth Rock Falls, as well as Little Abitibi – Kesagami Lake and Timmins – Cochrane – Iroquois Falls.
Heat warnings are widespread across northern Ontario, with severe thunderstorm watches in several areas.
