The male driver of the motorcycle and his female passenger were both taken to hospital in Edmonton via STARS Air Ambulance with serious, but undetermined injuries, RCMP said Saturday morning.

RCMP said the male driver died of his injuries Saturday. The female passenger, a 32-year-old from Grande Prairie, remains in hospital in critical condition, officers said.

The driver of the pickup, a 16-year-old male from Hinton, was assessed at Hinton Hospital and released on Friday.

RCMP say charges are pending against the driver of the pickup. The investigation is ongoing, but police say speed and alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the collision.
