Careless smoking blamed for house fire in Peterborough’s southeast end

Careless smoking is being blamed for a house fire in Peterborough’s southeast end on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1:20 p.m., Peterborough Fire Services’ crews responded to reports of a structure fire on Corrigan Crescent.Comments:

According to platoon chief Stephen Reid, upon arrivals crews found smoke coming from the roof area.

“The fire appeared to have started on the deck at the rear of the building,” he stated. “Fire had spread up the wall and into the attic space. Firefighters limited the spread of fire to those areas.”

Reid said neighbours alerted the occupants of the home who manage to exit safely.

Damage is pegged at $90,000, Reid stated.
