City of Kawartha Lakes man, 57, charged with second-degree murder near Omemee

One man is dead, another man has been charged with second-degree murder in the City of Kawartha Lakes. As Dan Nyznik reports, the homicide is the second on the same rural road in seven years – Apr 22, 2020

A City of Kawartha Lakes man has been charged with second-degree murder following an altercation at a home near Omemee, Ont., on Tuesday.

According to OPP, officers responded to a 911 call around 1 p.m. at a home on Valley Road on Tuesday afternoon.

There, they found the body of a deceased man outside the two-storey house.

On Wednesday, the victim was identified as Glen Mark, 73, a local resident.

The OPP’s canine unit and emergency response team located and arrested a suspect.

On Wednesday, OPP stated Richard Brachman, 57, of the City of Kawartha Lakes, has been charged with second-degree murder.

OPP have not provided any details on how the victim died, or if Mark or Brachman knew each other.

Brachman was sent to Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay for undisclosed “non-life threatening” injuries

Brachman was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Lindsay on Wednesday, OPP said.

The investigation remains ongoing with members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP’s crime unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The homicide is the second on Valley Road in seven years. In September 2013, Wendy Taylor was found stabbed to death inside the garage of her home. Her husband Iain in October 2016 was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
