Henry’s Provencher Autobody and Frameworks went up in flames and platoon chief Alden Darragh said “extensive damage” has been done to the building.

“When we arrived on scene, we found the building well-involved,” Darragh said. “We went into defensive mode. We called for an extra aerial ladder and are using water-tower operations to extinguish it.”

There is no word on how the fire started.

Friday morning, Winnipeg police closed Provencher Boulevard from Aulneau Street to Tache Avenue while crews continued to put out hot spots. The road re-opened just after 7 a.m.

The chief says the building was locked at the time of the fire and nobody was inside.

Darragh said the fire was well-contained and no other buildings were in danger.

“We have vacant lots on both sides. We’re extremely lucky with that.”
