UPDATE: Ottawa police said late Tuesday that they’d arrested one person in connection to the Cummings Avenue homicide investigation. Police didn’t share any further details and said an update would follow.
A suspicious death investigation launched after police found a dead body east of downtown on Monday afternoon has turned into a homicide probe, the Ottawa Police Service has confirmed.
Officers discovered the body shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday in a residence in the 1100 block of Cummings Avenue, located just east of St. Laurent Boulevard and north of Ogilvie Road, according to the police service.
In a news release Tuesday afternoon, police identified the dead person as Jason Saunders, a 45-year-old Ottawa resident, and announced that major crime investigators are treating his death as a homicide.
An Ottawa police spokesperson confirmed this marks the city’s second homicide of the year.
Investigators have not released any information about how Saunders was killed.
The police force said the investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.
