Toronto police and paramedics say a woman, believed to be in her mid-20s, has died after being hit by a truck in the city’s north end.
Emergency crews were called to Alness Street near Steeles Avenue West at around 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Paramedics said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic Services Det. Brett Moore said a commercial vehicle was travelling eastbound on Supertest Road and turned right to go south on Alness Street when the woman was hit.
“The woman was struck and killed right here at the scene unfortunately,” Moore said.
Moore said officers are working on identifying the woman and notifying next of kin.
The investigation is being classified as a fail-to-remain as the driver did not remain at the scene, Moore said.
Roads are closed along Alness Street between Dolomite Drive to Martin Ross Avenue and Supertest Road from Flint Road to Dufferin Street, police said.
The roads are expected to be closed for a while as police gather evidence at the scene.
