TORONTO — Canadian actor Luke Kirby is making headlines for a rumoured romance with Tom Cruise’s ex-wife, actress Katie Holmes.
Kirby and Holmes are currently filming Mania Days in New York City and — according to the gossip — spending time together off-camera.
Using photos of Kirby and Holmes as they filmed a steamy scene for Mania Days, the National Enquirer declared: “Katie Holmes has caught fire with her hunky hetero new co-star, and sources say her ex Tom Cruise is furious!”
According to the tabloid, “insiders say their red-hot chemistry – both on-screen and off – has sent a loud-and-clear message to Tom that Katie’s finally moved on.”
The Enquirer enlisted body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass to analyze the photos of the cozy co-stars.
“Katie is obviously very receptive to Luke,” she opined. “The fact that her knee is up and between his means that she’s engulfing him. This is a very brazen display.”
In Mania Days, Holmes and Kirby play manic-depressives who fall in love after meeting at a psychiatric hospital.
Paparazzi have also captured Holmes and Kirby out and about in New York City.
The New York Daily News reported “the duo headed to the East Village and were ‘almost holding hands.’ But when they were spotted by paps, Holmes changed direction and hailed a cab, leaving Kirby in the street.”
Referring to Kirby as “Katie’s New Man,” celebrity magazine OK! published a chart comparing Kirby to Cruise. (Kirby’s taller by five inches.)
The Belfast Telegraph reported “Katie and Luke apparently enjoyed instant chemistry at the initial read-through for the film and have been inseparable since.”
Adding fuel to the romance speculation is the apparent separation of Kirby and his girlfriend, costume designer Andrea Sarubbi.
Kirby, who turns 35 this month, was born in Hamilton and studied at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. He has since appeared in movies like Halloween: Resurrection and TV shows like Haven.
Kirby had steamy sex scenes with Holmes’ Dawson’s Creek co-star Michelle Williams in 2011’s made-in-Toronto film Take This Waltz.
He is now based in New York City.
Holmes, who was married to Cruise for six years, spent time in Kirby’s hometown in 2010 while filming scenes for the TV miniseries The Kennedys.
