Hamilton police investigating homicide after man found lying on road

Hamilton police say they are investigating the city’s 13th homicide after a man was found lying on the road Friday morning on the mountain.

Police were called to West 4th Street, near Richwill Road, at around 6:39 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 39-year-old man on the roadway next to a black car, officials said.

Investigators were initially calling the death suspicious and in an update Friday afternoon said the death is a homicide.

Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk said the victim’s wife found him. He was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“The victim does appear to be the victim of a shooting,” Bereziuk said.

“It looks as though he was leaving to go to work this morning and this is in front of his residence.”

There is no suspect description available. Bereziuk said it appears the incident was targeted.

Bereziuk added that the victim’s children were at home when the incident occurred.
