Woman in critical condition after being hit by car in Toronto’s north end, officials say

Officials say a 47-year-old woman has life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a vehicle in Scarborough Monday evening.

A Toronto Paramedics spokesperson told Global News emergency crews were called to the area of Midland Avenue and Steeles Avenue East after 6:30 p.m.

The spokesperson said the woman was taken to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition.

Police said a 44-year old woman was driving northbound on Midland Avenue when she struck the 47-year-old woman who was crossing the street from east to west.

In an updated news release sent out Tuesday morning, police said there may have been other vehicles in the area. It is not yet known if any were directly involved in the collision, investigators added.

Police told Global News the woman is still in hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

Investigators are asking local residents, business, drivers or anyone in the area who may have observed what happened or have security or dashcam footage to contact investigators at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

Officers closed roads in the immediate area as investigators gathered evidence.
