EDMONTON – It was a busy Monday for police in downtown Edmonton, with a homicide off Jasper Avenue in Oliver and a suspicious death about 30 blocks away in Cromdale.

Police were called to an apartment building on Jasper Avenue and 83rd Street Monday morning, and soon had it taped off. EPS spokesperson Clair Seyler still did not have much information about the investigation in the afternoon.

“We can confirm that it is a death and that it is suspicious at this time, but any other details we just don’t know. It’s just too early,” she said.

“Not the best part of the city, obviously,” said Laks Ball, who’s been living in the building for just over a year, “but I haven’t witnessed anything unsettling at all since we’ve been here.”

“Everyone just kind of keeps to themselves,” she added.

She noticed the police presence outside her building by about 10:30 Monday morning.

By afternoon, forensics investigators were still combing through the scene, speaking to residents, and taking pictures of a vehicle in the parking lot before towing it away.
