CN train derails on overpass crossing Lagimodiere Boulevard

A train derailment that left rail cars leaning over a rail bridge closed traffic on Lagimodiere Boulevard Friday.

12 cars of a CN train were derailed or leaning on their side on the Lagimodiere overpass near Dawson Road, stopping northbound traffic on Lagimodiere Boulevard Friday afternoon.

The derailment was called into emergency services at about 11:50 a.m.

Rail workers are on scene.

“CN crews are responding to an incident involving 12 empty grain cars which derailed in various positions near Lagimodière Blvd. in Winnipeg,” a spokesperson wrote to 680 CJOB.

“There are no dangerous goods, fires or injuries involved at this time. Lagimodière blvd. [sic] is currently partially closed as a precautionary measure.

“CN apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this incident and would also like to thank emergency personnel and first responders who are present at the scene. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.”
