Toronto police have located a woman and 18-month-old child after witnesses told police they saw the two allegedly being forced into a car on Thursday morning in Scarborough.
Police were called to Midland Avenue and Silver Star Boulevard, just north of Finch Avenue, at around 7:30 a.m.
Investigators said that according to multiple 911 callers, a man drove to the area and after a struggle, forced the woman and child into the vehicle. The man then drove off, police said.
At around 10 a.m. police tweeted that the woman, child and vehicle were located.
“Fortunately, with the public’s assistance and some very, very good investigative work, and the assistance of other police services, the man, the woman and the 18-month-old child have all been safely located,” Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu, with Toronto Police, told reporters Thursday morning.
Sidhu said they are getting medical treatment and the appropriate charges will be laid once investigators can speak to the man.
Sidhu also added that the three are all known to each other although it’s not known what the relationship is between all of them except that the woman is the 18-month-old child’s mother.
They were located on a roadway in Peel Region by the public and police there, Sidhu said.
“An Amber Alert was actually in the process. Fortunately, they had been located safely and the Amber Alert was not issued,” Sidhu said.
