A dust storm in California on Tuesday caused several accidents along a freeway, prompting California Highway Patrol to close the road.
“We’d had strong northwest winds throughout the area on Tuesday,” said Stuart Seto, Weather Specialist for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “The winds increased as the low pressure in the area increased.”

The area had been under high wind warnings throughout the day as sustained winds blew at 48 km/h with gusts near 64 km/h. By 5:30 PDT, the gusts had increased to 80 km/h.
The California Highway Patrol closed Hwy. 14 until the early morning hours when the winds diminished.
The area is no longer under a warning, but is under a high wind advisory.
