Man pronounced dead following daylight shooting in Etobicoke

Toronto police say a man has been pronounced dead following a daylight shooting in Etobicoke.

Officers responded shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday to the area of Rathburn Road and The West Mall, just west of Highway 427.

According to investigators, the victim was found vital signs absent and was suffering from gunshot wounds.

He has since been identified as 21-year-old Donovan Betty of Toronto.

Duty Insp. Darren Alldrit told media that a passerby had come across the victim lying on the ground in the rear parking lot of the residential area.

“With all these building, I’m surprised we didn’t get any radio calls in regards to any sounds of gunshots,” Alldrit said.

Police said a dark-coloured sedan was seen driving quickly away from the scene.

It is unclear if the shooting was targeted.

Officers are appealing to witnesses in the area to provide any information they have.

The investigation remains ongoing.
