Officers responded to the call just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a person shot at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Toronto airport hotel, near Carlingview Drive and Dixon Road.

Duty Insp. Norm Proctor said the 30-year-old victim was found on the north side of the building, suffering gunshot wounds.

According to police, the man was taken to trauma centre for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Although officers will be canvassing the area, Proctor told media that there will be difficulties due to the amount of people staying at the hotel that are not familiar with the area.

“The challenges are always to obtain witnesses and try to find out who saw what and what they have to offer us,” he said.

“I walked into the lobby, heard people running outside, and obviously at that time people were saying, ‘There’s been a shooting, there’s been a shooting,'” Gautam Bhimani said.

He said he went back up to his room and looked out the window to see what was happening.

“Within minutes there were ambulances, fire brigades and police cars all here,” Bhimani said.

He described the gunshots as muffled sounds and initially thought it was just fireworks for a celebration.

Bhimani said that while the incident was unexpected, it doesn’t deter his thoughts on feeling safe in the city.

“Still love the city, still keep coming back — but the only thing is at that time of night, I may think twice about satisfying my hunger.”

Police said they are currently looking for three suspects that left in a vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing.
