Edmonton man behind bars after alleged stabbing spree

Edmonton – A 19-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing several people near Kingsway Garden Mall Saturday evening.

Police officers were called to the ETS Transit Centre at Kingsway at around 6:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 50-year-old woman with a life threatening stab wound to her back.

Paramedics rushed the woman to hospital where she underwent surgery and is recovering.

Police also found a male nearby suffering from a minor stab wound to his arm.

Three other people were also allegedly attacked by the same suspect at a nearby fast food restaurant.

Police believe the attacker slashed at the three males with a knife after failed robberies in the restaurant parking lot. One of the three males was stabbed in the back. The injury is non-life threatening.

Police found and arrested 19-year-old Brandon Meeches near the transit centre.

Meeches is facing multiple aggravated assault and weapons charges.
