Chris Hadfield: “This space station is a wonderful example of how people can do things right”

Chris Hadfield is back home and adjusting to just the normal, everyday issues that being on Earth entails.

“It’s very confusing for my body, for one, just gravity…My body was quite happy living in space without gravity…My body is catching up with the change.”

Speaking at a press conference held Thursday morning, Hadfield said that when he was at the gym on Wednesday and lay down on the mat, “it felt like two people were laying on top of me…weightlessness is a superpower.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Hadfield addressed how popular he’d become while using social media to connect with people on Earth.

“Yes, I understood that there was a growing interest and following for what was happening, but that was not my purpose,” Hadfield said.

“My purpose is to help people to understand what is possible on the space station and the things that we’re doing…I’m coming up on a million people who follow me on Twitter. They follow me because it’s interesting. Because it’s not just one thing. There’s beautiful imagery. There’s poetry in what’s happening. There’s purpose in what’s happening…there’s hope in it.”
