Halifax firefighters contain large building fire on Green Street

A large abandoned structure located at a commercial building at 5280 Green Street in Halifax caught fire on Monday.

Police assisted the Halifax Fire Department at the structure fire, and Halifax Fire has confirmed that several of its units were on site.

Fire officials told Global News that there is significant damage inside, but firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.

There are some crews remaining on scene to make sure the fire doesn’t flare up again.

Green Street is currently closed down to traffic and police are asking that the public keeps out of the area.

A car was also illegally parked in front of a fire hydrant and the windows had to be smashed out.

Police said there are no reports of injuries at this time, but two firefighters were treated at the scene for heat-related problems.
