Sugar Sammy takes home two Olivier awards

MONTREAL – Comedian Sugar Sammy took home the prestigious Olivier of the Year at the 15th Gala Les Olivier, for his humorous take on life in multilingual Quebec.

The Olivier Awards honour Quebec comedians who perform in French but the prizes don’t extend to bilingual comedy shows, like Sugar Sammy’s nearly always sold-out show You’re Gonna Rire.

Nevertheless, En Francais SVP won the award for Best Comedy Performance of the Year – the only one of Sugar Sammy’s shows from last year to be eligible.

During his acceptance speech, Sugar Sammy thanked everyone and then said in English, “Guys, I’m in! Time to take over.”
