Police said officers responded to a call at Orchid Nightclub at 82 Peter St. just before 3 a.m. after staff found the victim while they were cleaning up.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported in life-threatening condition to hospital where he later died, police said.

Police have identified the man as Jordan Armstrong, 33, of Markham.

A friend of the victim told Global News Armstrong was a promoter at the club and had a seven-year-old son.

Police said a gun was found close to the victim’s body, but it needed forensic testing to determine if it was related.

“We’re asking for the public’s help because, listen, we’re talking about a nightclub,” Const. David Hopkins told Global News. “Although it’s at the end of the night, there are still people there, and we have to sort of work our way backwards to find out what the victim was doing.”

Police ask anyone with information or who took pictures or video inside the club that night to come forward.
