Toronto police say a pedestrian has died after she was struck by a flatbed truck in downtown Toronto Wednesday morning.

Emergency services responded to a call in the area of Victoria Street and Queen Street East, just west of Yonge Street shortly after 9 a.m.

Police said a 43-year-old man was driving a 2014 Kenworth commercial truck south on Victoria Street and stopped at a red light at Queen Street East.

A 56-year-old woman had started to cross Victoria Street along the north side of Queen Street East in the crosswalk, police said.

Investigators said the driver drive south and struck the woman when the light turned green.

The woman was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have security or dash camera footage to contact them at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
