SIU investigating officer-involved shooting death of 48-year-old man in Tecumseh

TECUMSEH, Ont. – The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a 48-year-old man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Tecumseh, Ont.

The Special Investigations Unit says preliminary investigation indicates that provincial police responded to a call for a “man in distress” in the town east of Windsor at around 10:15 p.m. on Friday.

There was an “interaction” between officers and the man inside the home and one of the officers fired his gun, striking the man, who later died in hospital.

In a statement Saturday, the SIU says three police officers were also injured and have since been released from hospital.

The unit has assigned five investigators, including two forensic specialists, to the case, and a post-mortem has been scheduled for Sunday in London, Ont.

The SIU is urging anyone with information to contact them, and anyone with video evidence to upload it through their website.
