What started out as an impaired driving investigation has ended in drug trafficking charges being laid against a woman and man from Burlington, Hamilton police say.
Police responded to a call from a restaurant around Upper James Street and Stonechurch Road shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday for reports that a car was poorly parked in the parking lot and the vehicle’s driver, a woman, was inside the business swaying.
Upon arrival, police say officers found a man and a woman in a car that was incorrectly parked in front of a restaurant. The woman, who was in the driver’s seat, was reportedly swaying back and forth, while the man was in the passenger’s seat, police say.
Despite finding an open bottle of alcohol in the car, police say the officer determined the two were not, in fact, impaired.
After removing the two occupants from the vehicle, police say officers found a container concealing meth and Ritalin tablets in the front cabin.
Investigators also identified additional drugs and money related to trafficking, police say.
Sarach Rajczak-McGuigan, 31, and Adam Dezic, 28, both from Burlington, are facing three charges each, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
