Police tape surrounded a tarp on the ground and a tent covered a car in the parking lot of a south Edmonton rental complex, where a 21-year-old died Tuesday morning.
The suspicious death happened at the Lord Byron Towers complex just south of Whitemud Drive on 122/119 Street, in the Royal Gardens neighbourhood. The complex, which also has townhouses, is owned by Boardwalk Rental Communities.
Edmonton police officers responded to a “trouble unknown” call at approximately 12:25 a.m. It was reported to EPS that a young man suffered critical injuries during an altercation with a group of people and died on scene, despite attempts by paramedics to save his life.

Witnesses told Global News they heard people screaming for help, adding police and paramedics arrived quickly but nothing could be done to save the man.
Police tape blocked off a large part of the entrance parking lot, where a tarp covered what appeared to be a body on the ground and a black tent stood over a silver car, protecting it from rain that was falling in the early morning hours.
Edmonton police said they do not believe the death was random and are searching for a group of suspects who fled the scene.
The medical examiner has yet to schedule an autopsy.
