Wednesday afternoon, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) was called to the area of 103rd Avenue and 156th Street, just after 4:00 p.m. “on the report of a suspicious death of a child,” said Acting Inspector Erik Johnson, with EPS.

“Upon arrival, we began an investigation which has now progressed to the point of having homicide come out to check into the investigation, as well.”

Johnson could not comment on the age of the child, however, neighbours said they believed the child was a baby.

“All I can say right now is it’s a child,” Johnson said.

Those who live there say the building is quiet, and family-oriented.

“It’s a family building,” said Faline Beaverbones, “Everybody knows everybody.”

“I saw four police cruisers, an ambulance and a fire truck all wrapped around this block and I just assumed that is was coming from the building next door because I never heard (anything) unfamiliar or strange,” added the building manager, Shannon Beaverbones.

Police interviewed residents of the building and Thursday afternoon an autopsy confirmed the child’s death was not criminal in nature.
