The case of a 19-year-old woman who allegedly tossed a chair off the balcony of a downtown Toronto highrise has been put over to next month.
On Feb. 11, a video began circulating on social media that appeared to show a woman dressed in black pants, a black leather coat and black high heels tossing a chair over a balcony, several storeys up. The video ends before the chair lands on the ground.
Police confirmed the event took place Feb. 9.
Toronto police said other objects were allegedly thrown off the balcony, including a second chair. The items ended up in front of the highrise building’s entrance.
Marcella Zoia is charged with one count each of mischief endangering life, mischief endangering property under $5,000 and common nuisance.
After surrendering to police on Feb.13, Zoia was released on $2,000 bail.

Under her conditions, she must also live with her mother, who is her surety. She cannot have any contact with four individuals involved in the alleged incident and she cannot visit the condo at 55/65 Bremner Street, where the event took place.
On Friday, her lawyer, Gregory Leslie, said she is remorseful and he said the objective is to settle the matter before it goes to trial.
“She’s upset, she’s been pretty well keeping low and she wants this matter to be over with,” Leslie said. “I honestly believe that she is remorseful that she’s been at home. She’s been expelled from her school and she wishes that this never happened.
“It’s very unfortunate that it did happen. It’s been a hard lesson.”
The case has been put over to April 26th.
