Peterborough teen charged with assault downtown

A 17-year-old Peterborough teenage girl has been arrested and charged with assault and mischief following an investigation.

On Thursday, police received a report that while in the area of Hunter Street West, the accused allegedly assaulted a female and damaged her cellphone.

Police say the accused and the female know each other.

Officers investigated and later on Thursday, police say the accused turned herself in at the police station where she was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.

She was released from custody and will appear in court on April 15.

The name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
