A Toronto senior who was convicted of the brutal murder of his fellow nursing home resident died in federal prison this week.
On March 20, Peter Brooks, an inmate at Millhaven Institution in Bath, Ont., died of natural causes at the prison’s treatment centre, according to correctional officials.
In 2013, Brooks brutally beat and killed 72-year-old Jocelyn Dickson with a cane at the Wexford Seniors Residence long-term care facility in Toronto’s east end.
Although he pleaded not guilty, Brooks was found guilty of second degree murder in 2016 and sentenced to life with no chance of parole for 10 years.

Brooks was also accused of the attempted murder of 91-year-old Lourdes Missier, but was found not guilty on that charge.
During the trial, it was established that Brooks had some form of dementia, but it was determined that he was in his right mind when he attacked and killed his victim.
