A man who tried to rob a convenience store by claiming to be a police officer is behind bars at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Police said the man entered the William Avenue store around 5:30 p.m. March 13 and told staff he was police and was there to commit a robbery. He stole an unknown quantity of cigarettes.
Police said the suspect, Dariusz Tomasz Wojczynski, 38, has been identified as being responsible for a number of similar robberies, including four incidents dating back to October 2018.
Three of those incidents involved the same William Avenue store as the March 13 robbery. Police said the suspect tried to hide his identity by wearing different clothes, hats and sunglasses.
The fourth robbery was at a grocery store on Main Street. In each of the incidents, the suspect stole a small quantity of cigarettes.
Wojczynski faces two counts of robbery, three counts of disguise with intent, three counts of theft and four counts of impersonating a peace officer. He was also charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.
