Man charged after firearm discharged, woman injured in Moncton

A 32-year-old man from Moncton is facing charges after a firearm was discharged and a woman was injured Wednesday night.

Codiac Regional RCMP say they received a call of a gunshot at a residence on High Street in Moncton at around 11 p.m.

Police say a 40-year-old woman was injured and transported to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was arrested a short time later nearby and was held in custody overnight.

Jake Allen Woods appeared in Moncton provincial court on Thursday and was charged with discharging a firearm while being reckless as to the life or safety of another person, discharging a firearm knowing another person is present, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence.

Police say they remain at the scene and the investigation remains ongoing.
