Ontario’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate allegations of sexual assault against a Waterloo Regional Police officer.
Waterloo police say that an officer pulled over a suspected impaired driver in the Township of Wellesley on Sunday morning at 11:11 a.m.
While the officer was investigating, police say an allegation of sexual assault was made.
Waterloo police then contacted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which then invoked its mandate.
A spokesperson for the SIU would only say that agency investigators have been assigned to investigate this incident.
The SIU is an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
