Heavy snowfall and the appearance of cracks in the building’s walls temporarily closed some offices in the Place Bathurst Mall — including the agency responsible for enforcing New Brunswick’s occupational health and safety regulations.
WorkSafeNB has confirmed that their office in the mall, along with Slate Asset Management and Cushman and Wakefield were temporarily shuttered on Friday to “ensure the safety of visitors and tenants” of the mall.

They have since reopened.
“This is following an independent engineering inspection which revealed no signs of damage to the structure in any of the areas investigated,” wrote Largh Dooley, a spokesperson for WorkSafeNB in an email on Tuesday.
“The mall is now open for businesses to resume as usual.”
The provincial agency says they issued the order to ensure that the cracks have not caused structural damage to the building and that the building can safely withstand more snowfall or other weather hazards.

Dooley said the order was issued under Section 11 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which requires that owners of a place of employment must “take every reasonable precaution to ensure the health and safety of any person having access to or using that place of employment or part thereof.”
