2 youths, 1 man arrested after vehicle with stolen plate tracked to Chestermere: RCMP

RCMP say two youths and a man in his 20s are facing charges after a vehicle with a stolen licence plate was tracked speeding to and from Chestermere.

On Tuesday at about 8:30 p.m., the Calgary Police Service (CPS) contacted Chestermere RCMP to alert them that a vehicle they were following with the HAWCS helicopter was travelling toward the city.

RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle as it travelled east on Highway 1, but the vehicle evaded officers.

CPS continued to track the vehicle with the help of their helicopter.

In a news release, RCMP said the vehicle ran red lights and at times reached speeds of 150 km/h.

Eventually, the driver stopped at a home in Chestermere in the area of Springmere Close.

RCMP and the CPS K9 unit rushed to the home where they took three suspects into custody.

Two youth, both of whom have since been released, face charges.

A third suspect, who RCMP say is a 22-year-old Calgary man, is charged with several offences including break and enter and resisting arrest.

In a news release, Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz said the incident highlights the “dangerous driving patterns” of offenders who “attempt to evade police.”
