A Wisconsin sheriff’s office recently installed bars on its second-storey windows after a teen escaped from the building the moment he was left alone.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says officers took Quantrell D. Schwartzlow into custody on Oct. 18 at 11:07 a.m. during the execution of a search warrant.
The 17-year-old was wanted on charges of second-degree sexual assault, strangulation, suffocation and battery.
Schwartzlow arrived at the detective bureau just over 20 minutes later for questioning.
Security footage, released this week, shows that an official told him to wait “a minute” before he could remove the handcuffs he was wearing. That’s when the door closed and the teen was all alone.
Schwartzlow was out of the building 10 seconds later.
A news release states that Schwartzlow was “briefly left unattended” in a locked interview room.

WMTV reports that the teen fell anywhere from 12 to 16 feet, while a second security camera showed him fleeing across a lawn.
Janesville police officers located him four hours later. Schwartzlow was back in custody at 3:39 p.m., according to police, and was brought to the Rock County Jail.
“As a result of his escape from custody, he was arrested for escape,” said Capt. Todd Christiansen.
The teen pleaded not guilty to charges in December, according to NBC.
