Two people have died as the result of a house fire that happened about two miles west of Swift Current Wednesday afternoon.
“As soon as the two bodies were discovered, deceased obviously, the RCMP’s identification team came out and the local coroner,” Cherpin said.
“I also asked for the fire commissioner to come down and help investigate.”
The Rural Municipality of Swift Current Fire Department said that two side-by-side mobile homes were fully engulfed in flames when they arrived around 2 p.m.
“With the problem of rural water supply, the City of Swift Current Fire Department came out and helped us,” said Louis Cherpin, RM of Swift Current fire chief.

“It took us three hours or so to fully extinguish the fire.”
The cause of the fire is unknown at this point, and because older mobile homes burn very easily and in this case everything was detroyed, Cherpin isn’t sure if they’ll ever know.
“We may never know the cause of the fire, but we will do our due diligence and hopefully get some closure for the family,” Cherpin said.
Both bodies were sent to Regina for forensic analysis to confirm their identities, even though Cherpin said they have a good idea of who the victims are.
He said until the identities are confirmed, they cannot officially notify their next of kin.
Cherpin said the incident remains under investigation.
