A man from Innisfil has been charged in connection with a child pornography investigation, police say.
According to South Simcoe police, officers received information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police regarding child pornography involving a 12-year-old girl over social media sites including Snapchat and Instagram.
Police say on Wednesday, officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 9th Line and 25th Sideroad area of Innisfil.
Officers say as a result, 23-year-old Shiva Dhanna from Innisfil was arrested and charged with extortion, making sexually explicit material available to a person under 18 years of age, exposure to person under 16, possession of child pornography, making obscene matter and luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunications.
Police say Dhanna appeared in court for a bail hearing on Thursday, and was released on a recognizance with strict conditions.
Officers say the investigation is ongoing.
Police are concerned that there may be other victims and have released the accused’s social media usernames.
