Regina Pats erase 4-goal deficit, beat Kootenay Ice 5-4 in shootout

WATCH: Down 4-0 midway through the second period, the Regina Pats stormed back to beat the Kootenay Ice 5-4 in a shootout in WHL action Wednesday night.

The Regina Pats (17-38-1-2) stormed back from a four-goal deficit to beat the Kootenay Ice (11-37-7-2) 5-4 in a shootout in Western Hockey League (WHL) action Wednesday night.

Down four with just under 15 minutes left in the second period, Pats defencemen Brady Pouteau scored his third goal of the season to cut the lead to 4-1.

Pats winger Brett Clayton made it 4-2 eight and a half minutes into the third, potting this fourth of the year.

Carter Messier cut the lead to one just under two minutes later when he scored his third of the season.

Pats forward Logan Nijhoff completed the comeback when he scored a shorthanded goal and his sixth of the season with about three minutes left in the third.

Nobody converted in overtime.

Ty Kolle and Garrett Wright scored for the Pats in the shootout.

Ice forwards Connor McClennon, Jaeger White, Jakin Smallwood and Brad Ginnell scored in regulation.

Peyton Krebs scored the Ice’s only goal in the shootout.

Pats goalie Dean McNabb stopped 13-of-13 shots after replacing Max Paddock in the second period, who let in four goals on 22 shots.

Ice netminder Jesse Makaj let in four goals on 25 shots.

The Pats return to action on Friday when they host the Calgary Hitmen (30-22-4-1). Game time is 7 p.m.
