Waterloo region has issued a plea to local landlords to take part in a rent supplement program to help solve the shortage of affordable rental properties in the area.
“We are looking for strong community-minded landlords who recognize that it takes a community to make homes affordable for all,” Jennifer Murdoch-Martin, Manager of Housing Programs and Development, said in a statement. “The more we partner together to help individuals and families find and keep homes, the healthier and stronger our community will be.”

The region says there are currently 4,000 individuals or families who are seeking affordable housing in Waterloo.
It offers a program which will cover the difference between the price of rent and what a potential tenant can afford.
The region is seeking rental units that range from $832 for a bachelor apartment and $1,036 for a one-bedroom apartment, to $1,459 for a unit that has three or more bedrooms.
