A snow squall watch is in effect for the Barrie, Orillia, Midland and Collingwood areas.

Environment Canada said snow squalls are expected to hit the region Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The weather agency says lake effect snow will develop east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay on Wednesday morning as a Colorado low departs the region.
