Ministry of Transport friction report of Red Hill Valley Parkway to be released

Ontario Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek says he will order the release of the 2007 provincial friction test results for Hamilton’s Red Hill Valley Parkway.

It follows last week’s discovery of a report that was suppressed for six years that found friction levels on the highway were below expected standards, and in some places, well below.

The city auditor has launched an investigation to find out why the report was kept under wraps, and city councillors are expected to vote on a motion on Wednesday that would order a judicial review into what happened.

The families who have lost loved ones in crashes on the highway are also considering a class-action lawsuit.

According to the City of Hamilton’s 2017 collision report, there were 862 crashes on the Red Hill Valley Parkway, including four fatal collisions, between 2013 and 2017.
