It’s business as usual in Regina’s downtown Hill Centre Tower Three, after a broken water pipe on Monday caused extensive water damage to the first and second floors. But one business is left picking up the pieces.
A massive cleanup is underway at Twenty Ten City Eatery after flooding destroyed much of the restaurant, forcing it to close its doors.
“Just the amount of water, I couldn’t believe how much was coming through,” owner Steve Kosabek said. “The tables have water damage, the bar stools were sitting it water. Water was coming heavily through the light fixture, there was water covering the whole bar.
After meeting with his insurance adjuster, Kosabek said the restaurant will remain closed for at least four weeks — just as it was gearing up for a busy month.
“Valentine’s Day, I was almost sold out already,” Kosabek said. “Restaurant week was this week — I had lots of reservations and I was going to start a cajun theme next Saturday and I had quite a few reservations as well.”
With nothing left to do but wait, the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Kosabek estimates it will be more than $100,000.
“Obviously one of my major concerns was my staff, who are going to be off for a month or two, but luckily I do have insurance for that so they will still be getting paid,” Kosabek said.
With a fridge full of food Kosabek plans to donate it to Souls Harbour and is thanking the community for its support.
The building’s property management company, Harvard Development, says while the building is back up and running, cleanup is underway and the cause of the water line break is still unknown.
