A 74-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 70-year-old woman Friday in Montreal’s Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
Police responded to a 911 call at 6:45 a.m. about a conflict inside an apartment on Faribault Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found an injured woman inside the residence.

Montreal police spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron said the victim was bleeding.
“She was injured by a sharp object,” he said.
Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the woman was declared dead shortly after.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken in for questioning.
As of 4 p.m. Friday, the man had yet to meet with investigators.

Police did not release details about the relationship between the man and the victim as the investigation is ongoing.
Bergeron confirms it is the second homicide of 2019 to occur on Montreal police territory.
