On the heels of Swoop announcing that it will soon be flying out of Kelowna, another ultra-low cost carrier said it will soon be landing in the Okanagan.
On Thursday, Kelowna International Airport announced that it has reached an agreement with Canada Jetlines Ltd. Also Thursday, Canada Jetlines said it had reached an agreement with Winnipeg.
“We’re excited to welcome a new airline to the community,” said Kelowna airport director Sam Samaddar. “Adding another ultra-low-cost-carrier to YLW will give residents more flight options, and visitors more opportunities to experience all that the Okanagan has to offer.”
Notably, on Tuesday, Jan. 22, Swoop Airlines said it will be offering direct flights between Kelowna and Winnipeg three times a week, starting May 24.
Canada Jetlines says it is “currently plotting our route maps and seeking input from future travellers. Please send us ideas on where you think we should fly, and what products and services you would like Jetlines to offer.”
Winnipeg Airports Authority president and CEO Barry Rempel said “we are excited to welcome Jetlines to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. The addition of Jetlines to this market gives travellers another low-cost option to explore all this city and province have to offer.”
Canada Jetlines added that it plans to operate flights across Canada and provide non-stop service from Canada to the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.
On Tuesday, Canada Jetlines said it reached an agreement for flights to the Dominican Republic.
“Jetlines is thrilled to announce future ultra-low-fare service to the Kelowna International Airport,” said Canada Jetlines CEO Javier Suarez. “The Okanagan region represents a very significant leisure market for Canadians and we look forward to helping more people get to visit the country’s only desert.
“We firmly believe that our fares should stimulate more tourism and travel in the region.”
