21-year-old Surrey man wanted for attempted murder arrested in Alberta

Surrey RCMP say a 21-year-old Surrey man, Anhad Singh Virk, who was wanted following a stabbing in Surrey B.C. on Dec. 13, 2018, has been arrested in Alberta.

He was arrested in Edmonton on Jan. 30.

Virk remains in-custody in Edmonton while arrangements are made for his return to Surrey where he will be brought before the court.

“We would like to thank the public and the Edmonton Police Service for their assistance in locating and arresting the suspect in this occurrence,” Staff Sgt. Kirk Duncan, of the general investigation unit, said in a release. “In particular, we would like to thank an alert member of the community who saw our media release and immediately notified police to the suspect’s whereabouts.”

The stabbing happened in Surrey, B.C. outside a business in the 13400-block of 72 Avenue, just after 5 p.m., according to police.

A man in his 50s was seriously injured in what police believe was a targeted attack.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has now approved charges of attempted murder against Virk.
