Ottawa police say they have charged three men in connection with the first reported shooting incident of the year, which occurred late on Thursday night in Riverside Park, just east of Mooney’s Bay.
Earlier on Friday, police said officers responded to a call about gunshots fired in the area of Springland Drive and Hobson Road, in Ottawa’s south end, shortly after 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Minutes afterward, officers pulled over a vehicle and arrested three individuals and seized a handgun, police said in a news release.
Officers did not find anyone injured, police said.
Police spokesperson Const. Amy Gagnon said the incident marked Ottawa’s first reported shooting incident this year.
In an update on Friday afternoon, police said they have charged Hussein Humoud, 19, Ahmed Abdul-Amir, 20, and Brandon Traill, 19, with careless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Traill has also been charged with breaching probation, police said.
The three men are expected to appear in court on Friday.
Police said their investigation continues and ask anyone with relevant information to call 613-236-122, ext. 3566.
