Peel Regional Police say a mother and baby are in good health after evidence of childbirth was found in a park in Mississauga.
Police said they were contacted on Monday around 3:50 p.m. regarding a suspicious incident at Sugar Maple Woods Park near Glen Erin Drive just south of Thomas Street.
Authorities said officers arrived on scene and located blood, forceps and other evidence consistent with childbirth.
On Tuesday evening, Const. Danny Marttini told Global News that a relative saw the media reports and contacted them to say the mother and baby are all right. Police said a home birth took place a year ago in Brantford, Ont., and that things were kept after the birth for “holistic purposes.”
The objects were placed in the park to be “reunited with nature,” Marttini said.
Police said a man walking his dog was the one who located the items on Monday.
Police said they were concerned about the well-being of the mother and baby.
A resident said her 24-year-old son was walking the family dog in the park when they made the discovery.
“He was just taking the dog for his usual four o’clock walk at the end of the day and Wallace, the little dog, just pulled him off the path and started sniffing at something — which is not unusual for a dog — until my son went over and he saw what he saw,” Karen Forsythe said.
“We have coyotes in the woods. If it was there an hour before, it would have been gone.”
