Three men have been charged with child pornography-related charges in Kingston in the last several weeks.
The most recent charges involved a 31-year-old man arrested on Thursday and charged with making, accessing and possessing child pornography.
On Nov. 12, a 50-year-old man was also arrested and charged with similar offences. He was found with numerous storage devices police say contained child pornography.
Const. Cam Mack, communications officer with the Kingston police, says these incidents are not related, and that the investigations into the three accused took months to lead to charges.
“Finding the individuals that are doing this sort of things, building a case, getting warrants and making arrests and following through with convictions,” says Mack about the process involved in these investigations.
All three arrests were made through investigations led by the Internet Child Exploitation Unit within the Kingston Police.
“In this unit, these officers are looking for these types of offences and monitoring the internet and file-sharing websites,” says Mack.
On Nov. 14, police released the most information about a case involving 43-year-old Robert John Burns, who was charged with several child pornography-related offences, including making and possessing child pornography.
Police allege Burns messaged a mother on Facebook, commenting about her daughter — then sending the young girl messages of a sexual nature.
Investigators are concerned that Burns may have had access or contact with other children.
Anyone with information regarding the accused having contact with a child is asked to contact Det. Paul Robb at 613-549-4660 ext. 6383.
