A man convicted of killing a Calgary woman has filed an appeal of his first-degree murder conviction.
Curtis Healy, 29, was found guilty last month and received an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Court heard he raped and killed Dawns Baptiste in 2015 after the mother of four told him to leave her alone after getting off of a transit train.
Queen’s Bench Justice Charlene Anderson called Healy’s crime reprehensible, senseless, vicious and brutal.
The notice of appeal contends the judge was wrong to rule that some statements Healy made about the case were voluntary and admissible.
Healy also contends the judge made other legal mistakes, including refusing to declare a mistrial over the fact that some of the sequestered jurors met in a hotel lounge where there was a TV on.
