Trial begins for man accused of shooting 24-year-old

A three week jury trial is now underway for a Winnipeg man charged with second-degree murder.

On Monday morning, Christopher Brass pleaded not guilty in the death of 24-year-old Bryer Prysiazniuk-Settee.

Settee was shot near Powers Street and Aberdeen Avenue on Feb. 8, 2017.

In the Crown’s opening statement attorney Minh Nguyen outlined what prosecutors believe happened that day.

Nguyen said Settee had gone to an apartment to buy drugs. He said Brass was asleep on an armchair and Settee made a comment to his girlfriend saying “I should slit his throat.”

It’s alleged that’s when Brass was woken up, reached for his gun and shot Settee twice.

The 12-person jury consists of seven women and five men.
